Ames Chapter Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance

Join Ames, Iowa Chapter AFWA today!

The Accounting & Financial Women's Alliance (AFWA) (formerly American Society of Women Accountants or ASWA) was formed in 1938 to increase the opportunities for women in all fields of accounting and finance. The first chapter was chartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. AFWA members range from students and young professionals to experienced career women and retirees. Our members work in public accounting, government, non-profit, and corporate accounting. They are CPAs, EAs, CMAs, CFPs, and more. And many of our members are just beginning their studies for advanced certifications.

The Ames Chapter of the Acounting & Financial Women's Alliance was founded in 1990 and currently has 17 members. The Ames Chapter focuses its membership efforts on the Story, Boone and Marshall county areas, although we have some members from around the state. Like the national organization, the Ames Chapter has members with diverse backgrounds and interests. Our members work in public accounting, education, government, and private industry. Chapter meetings are generally on the second Tuesday evening of each month and most include a program for CPE credit, as well as networking and a business meeting. Student members can join at reduced rates. For membership information, contact the membership committee at  or click here to join.

The Chapter is pleased to provide scholarships to area students. The application deadline for the 2024 Beverly M. Wandling Memorial Scholarship and for the 2024 Kathleen M. Strum Memorial Scholarship was November 1, 2023. One student was awarded 2024 Wandling Scholarship. The 2024 Strum Scholarship was not awarded.   Click here for more information or contact
